FOSTERING FAMILIES
Helen and Bryan Moon adopted Jackson and fostering Dylan 8/25/23
Sarah and Zach Kirk started fostering Ny'el, 6/23/23
Updated 9/3/25
They are thankful that the birth mom's appeal was denied and the Kirk's are able to move towards adoption. They are hoping to have everything finalized by November. Unfortunately, the birth mom has lashed out and posted some concerning things on Facebook, accusing the Kirk's of being physically and verbally abusive, and shared information identifying Ny'el and their birth daughter, Addie. Please pray safety and wisdom for the Kirk's and all the attorney's and CPS workers involved. Prayers for Ny'el's protection, and for the birth mom to feel comforted during this painful process.
Details:
The Kirks started fostering a 5 year old boy named Ny'el. Pray for his health and for family dynamics as the girls adjust to a new placement. Ny’el had unsupervised visits with his bio mom with the goal of reunification, despite the belief that she is still unstable. These visits had a negative impact on Ny'el. Ultimately the judge terminated parental rights in December but then his mom submitted an appeal. The appeal will be reviewed sometime after august. Pray for peace in the waiting and closure for Ny’el. He’s having a lot of anxiety and started bedwetting again. They have seen a urologist, may require pelvic floor therapy, potentially doing a sleep study, and might consider anxiety medication for him as well. He was able to get into a new TF-CBT therapy they are praying will be helpful.

NEW
Baumgarten Family, 9/3/25
Stephen and Meg just had their baby, Beau, and found out he has a significant sight threatening issue with his left eye. The cataract is so dense in his eye they cannot see behind it to figure out what's going on. He will have surgery soon, and they are praying the retina in his left eye is not detached and will not detach before the surgery. They also found some abnormal blood vessels in his right eye, and are praying these would dissipate and be a non issue for him. Prayers for Stephen and Meg as they make decisions on next steps, doctors, etc. and prayers for the doctors that are on his case to be full of wisdom and confidence.

Samantha Glass, 8/28/25
Samantha lost her 26 year old brother, Garrett, a few weeks ago after he had a heat stroke and then cardiac arrest. Please be praying over the family - for Samantha, her parents Sean and Jill, and Garrett's wife, Aubrey, as they all grieve their loss. They have been feeling God's nearness, and ask for prayers over continued healing as they head back into normal life. Aubrey is overwhelmed thinking about the long road ahead, so please pray God would supply her the perfect portion each day, and for her to see the way his is sustaining her. Samantha is currently on the couples kayak trip, so prayers that it would be a time she feels supported by community and encouraged in her walk with the Lord.

Lura Jane Munford
Updated 8/27/25
Recovery has been going okay. She has a follow up visit with her surgeon on September 10th to remove the stent that was placed during surgery to help in the healing process. This will be a relief as the stent continues to be a painful irritant. Pray that the ureter/kidney attachment repair heals and is a permanent solution. Also pray that there are no complications as a result of the surgery.
6/3/25
Lura Jane had surgery a couple of Friday's ago to put a stint in her ureter due to a stricture. She only has one kidney, which has doctors on high alert for the situation. After a kidney function test, they confirmed her kidney was not functioning normal or working well with the stent. She was scheduled for surgery on July 24th to have the stricture repaired, and the surgery was successful. Recovery has been a bit slow and more painful than expected. Prayers for healing of her abdomen and the incision site.

Autumn Hugo's dad, John
Updated 8/27/25
John’s surgery to put the port in was successful. He started chemo and immunotherapy last week. Pray that it will be effective at shrinking the tumors in his lungs – he’s having a hard time breathing and the treatment has been hard so far. Prayers for wisdom and unity for Autumn and Heather and their mom (Suzann) as they discuss how to best manage his care.
12/18/24
Autumn's dad has been having some health issues the past couple weeks. They were able to detect several small strokes and lung cancer, which they think must be the source of the strokes. Prayers for healing from the stroke damage, and strength as he starts PT and OT. He was working with a functional oncologist who was treating his lung cancer with some some alternative therapies, but have now decided to go ahead and start with chemo. He had surgery scheduled to get a port on Wednesday (8/13) and then begin chemo on Monday (8/18). Pray for John’s body to endure the chemo and doctors’ wisdom on any changes needed in protocol. Prayers for effective treatment, for his comfort, and for peace over him and the family.

Hannah John, 8/13/25
Hannah John was diagnosed recently with stage 3 melanoma. She has already had a successful surgery to remove the specific spot, but is now in treatment involving immunotherapy infusions occurring every 6 weeks for the next year and 5 days of radiation this month. Pray for endurance through radiation, that she experiences minimal side effects, and the treatment is sufficient.

Claire Westmoreland
Updated 8/7/25
The pathology report came back showing that the cancer was invasive, meaning it spread beyond her milk duct. It is now considered stage 1. They will go back in to remove more tissue, do sentinel lymph node testing, and remove 2-3 lymph nodes. Prayers for all of this to go smoothly, and for her to not feel too discouraged with this news.
6/12/25
Claire has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy on Tuesday, July 29th, and overall it went well. Pray that she will not need further treatment after the surgery, and recovery would be free of complications.

Lindsey Akridge
Updated 8/7/25
Lindsey is at her parents house in Lufkin as she adjusts to the MS diagnosis. Thankfully, the medicine is really helping and she will be returning to work at the end of August when she comes back to Houston. She seems in really good spirits and sounds firm in her faith. Pray that she would believe that God is good and has good for her despite the diagnosis, and that she would not live in fear.
5/22/25
Lindsey is 28 and following a recent MRI, was diagnosed with MS. She wasn't sleeping well, and has felt a lot of fear. Prayers for trust in the Lord and healing. Please be praying for peace over her diagnosis, and for the doctors to have wisdom as they manage symptoms and slow progression.
Staff/Elder: Anna, Parker

Skylar is missing his mom a lot, but when he goes over to visit it typically explodes, which hurts him a lot. Prays for healing with this relationship. Pray that he would be diligent in attending classes, turning in assignments, and complying with teachers. That it wouldn't be another hard school year, but that he would enjoy it. Pray he would persevere with football, and that he would draw near to the Lord in all things.
12/23/24
Please pray for the Husbands to have wisdom, clarity, and peace as they welcome a young man named Skyler into their home. He is now full-time staying with them. Pray for Skyler to be drawn to follow Jesus and for him to engage well in the GBC youth group. Pray for his mental stability and growing ability to form healthy relationships. Pray for the Husbands to have wisdom as they consider changing schools for Skyler. Car Rides for Barbara
Barbara, an elderly woman who lives near the church, is in a wheelchair, and depends on others to get her to the 10:45 service to worship on Sundays. For the past few months, Mike Tosoni has been the only person signing up. Wes and Stacie have been trying to recruit people, but come up short with every attempt to find people willing to consistently do this. Please pray we could find 8 people or couples who would be able to joyfully do this!
